Black Berkey Filters - Set of 2
Removes up to 99.99999% of Contaminants
For Berkey Filters & other Gravity Fed Water Filter Systems
Black Berkey® Filters are the most powerful gravity filter element currently available. They are so powerful that they can actually be called water purifiers.
The Black Berkey® purification elements were tested with more than 10,000 times the concentration of pathogens per liter than is required by standard test protocol. With that concentration, you would expect that post filtered water would contain 100,000 or more pathogens per liter, which would be 99.99% reduction, which is the requirement for pathogenic removal. However, Black Berkey filter elements removed 100% of all pathogens. Absolutely none were detected--even under an electron microscope! The Black Berkey Purification Elements are setting a new standard in water purification.
Clean Drinking Water Sources
Unfortunately, finding sparkling, wholesome water that tastes good can be more difficult than you might think.
Tap water that is supposed to be clean may contain lead, high levels of harmful bacteria, herbicides, pesticides and other chemicals. In addition to being unhealthy for you to ingest, they also frequently produce unpleasant tastes and odors.
Bottled water, which most people consider to be clean, can also contain these same contaminants. Not only that, but bottled water is inconvenient to transport, and it can be very expensive.
Black Berkey® filter elements remove or reduce pathogenic cysts, parasites, harmful or unwanted chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides, VOC's, detergents, organic solvents, trihalomethanes, cloudiness, silt, sediment, nitrates, nitrites, heavy metals, and foul tastes and odors so you can have clean water from any source
Black Berkey Filters - a Better Choice
Many other inferior filters do not remove, or even reduce, pathogenic bacteria, or harmful chemicals and minerals ,and many of them remove the very beneficial minerals that you need to stay healthy.
You can upgrade most gravity filtration units by installing Black Berkey® purification elements, which will greatly improve their ability to remove contaminants.
Beneficial Minerals Not Filtered Out
Many trace minerals and elements are absorbed into the blood stream by the human body through the water we drink. Although Black Berkey Elements remove an incredible amount of contaminants, they do not remove dissolved minerals. However, the benefit of this is that they leave in the healthful and beneficial minerals that your body needs.
Black Berkey Filter Technology
Black Berkey® purification elements combine the age-old process of micro-porous filtration coupled with modern state-of-the-art technology and the highest quality materials to bring you the finest water purification elements available anywhere.
The micro-pores within the self-sterilizing and re-cleanable Black Berkey® filter elements are so small that pathogenic bacteria are simply not able to pass through them. The elements incorporate proprietary quot;adsorption" media which results from the molecular attraction of substances to the surface of the media. Black Berkey® purification elements also incorporate proprietary "absorbing" media that are impregnated into the micro-porous elements for the IONIC "absorption" of pollutants.
Black Berkey® purification elements incorporate an extremely long "contact period". Other filtration systems rely on water pressure to force water molecules through the filters at 60-90 PSI. These water molecules come into contact with the filter media for a mere fraction of a second. By comparison, water molecules passing through the "Tortuous Path" structure of the Black Berkey® purification elements, are drawn gently by gravity and stay in contact with the media for several minutes, allowing the media to be more efficient in capturing contaminates. For example, if you were to hurl 100 steel ball bearings at a large magnet, some would stick but most would bounce off. However, if you were to walk over and gently place the ball bearings on the magnet most, if not all, would adhere. Black Berkey® purification elements fully utilize this principle.
This advanced technology was developed, refined, and proven through years of diligent, investigative research and testing performed by water purification specialists, researchers and engineers. The flow rate or time of exposure through the exclusive Black Berkey® purification elements has been calculated to yield the greatest volume removal of toxic chemicals and pathogenic bacteria found in nature and caused by pollution from industry and agriculture.
Black Berkey Tested by Independent Laboratories
The Black Berkey® filter formulation has been tested by State & EPA accredited laboratories to exceed EPA & ANSI/NSF (Std. 53) protocol. They have been tested by the University of Arizona and by Spectrum Labs

How to Clean Black Berkey Filters
If the flow rate of the Black Berkey filter slows significantly, it may be because the exterior layer of the filter has been clogged by sediment, silt, or turbidity in the water. This is more common with homes that use well water than those that use city water.
You can bring new life to the filter by cleaning the filter. You do this by scrubbing the exterior of the filter with a soft toothbrush or Scotchbrite pad under running water or in a bowl of water. Do not use soap or any detergent. This removes the exterior layer with the contaminants, and exposes a new layer of filter media. This process can be repeated over and over before the filter media is exhausted. When you replace the filter, be sure that the sealing washer is properly seated by turning the nut until tight.
