WHOLE-HOUSE WATER FILTER SYSTEM
PROS -
- Having a water filter that can provide all the fixtures in your house with clean water offers convenience.
- HAving safe and healthy drinking water available in baths and showers can help prevent accidental contamination.
- Filtered, especially softened water makes cleaning easier and reduces maintenance of fixtures, tubs, and sinks. This is because some filters as well as water softeners reduce the mineral content of the water, reduce calcium build-up on tubs tiles and fixtures and makes soap more effective.

POINT-OF-USE WATER FILTER SYSTEM
PROS -
- Gravity-fed, counter-top or under-sink units are less expensive to purchase.
- Gravity-fed, counter-top or under-sink units are generally easier to maintain.
CONS
- Gravity-fed, counter-top and under-sink units will not provide water to more than one sink or area. If you want filtered water in the kitchen and bathroom you will need two units or provide water to one from the other in a container.
- Many counter-top or under-sink units do not provide the same degree of safety or quality as you might get from a whole-house filter.
- As with whole-house filters you must maintain good maintenance records. With most filters, the water will continue to flow even after the filter reaches the end of it's useful life. You must keep track!
The exception to this is the Berkey
When the filter needs to be cleaned the water flow reduces, alerting you to the need to clean the filter. This is a great feature, especially if you're not prone to keep records (that's most of us).
